Gut Shabbes! (Emor)

This Shabbes is especially important to me.

As I’ve gone through the Parsha this week, and read and written about the laws found there, I’ve not been able to stop thinking about Shabbes. Yesterday, in my dvar Torah, I discussed the term ‘Callings of Holiness’- used in reference to the Jewish festivals- and I feel that it applies to Shabbes just as much as- if not more than- any other holiday. It’s a weekly calling of Holiness; a chance to connect with G-d, away from the hustle and bustle of the working week.

This Shabbes, I have responsiblities. I’m anxious about just how well it will go. But I know that no matter what happens, it’s a gift from G-d. And so, as I light the Shabbes candles tonight I will embrace the holiness around me, and savour it. In London, Shabbes candles should be lit at 8:23 PM, and Shabbes ends at 9:46 PM tomorrow. When lighting your candles, please keep in mind Chaim Elozor ben Baila, Moshe ben Hadasa, Moshe ben Genya, Eleazer Shimon Boruch ben Chaya Nesha, and Chashachana bas Bryna.
