Today is 18 Tammuz, but because 17 Tammuz fell on Shabbos, when fasting is forbidden, we are fasting today. I’d like to wish everyone a tzom kal- an easy fast- and may your fasting be meaningful as well as easy. When I fast on Jewish holidays which require it, it always helps me think about the meaning of the day. It leads to retrospection- and introspection- which helps me serve G-d correctly (I feel). It’s a very different feeling to that I get from giving tzedekah. For those interested in the comparison between tzedekah and fasting, why not check out today’s portion of the Tanya (Iggeret HaTeshuva) on Chabad.org?
